About Us
Who We Are
Since 1993, Sanford Law Offices has specialized in "litigation" - which simply means using the courts to resolve public and private disputes. The public disputes include criminal cases, such as OUI, domestic violence, and sex abuse charges. Related cases are motor vehicle license suspensions, restraining orders, and "child protection" cases brought by the Maine Department of Health & Human Services.
The private disputes include divorce, child custody, guardianship, and other family law cases; protection orders (abuse and harassment); automobile accidents, personal injury and wrongful death claims, and other litigation such as commercial and contract actions and boundary disputes.
Whether it is a civil or criminal case, the court relies on the parties and their legal advocates to present the evidence required to make a decision. Our sole focus is to convince the court to rule in our client's favor based on the evidence and legal arguments presented. We use our knowledge of the law and our reputation as fearless, persistent, and aggressive adversaries to obtain the most favorable settlement possible.
Gregory McCullough
As a child, Gregory McCullough sailed, skied, played football, and learned karate for self defense. He still enjoys these competitive activities, especially distance running (half marathons and marathons, including the Boston Marathon) and shorter races, because of the competitive element and challenge they afford.
McCullough applies the same effort and perseverance in his litigation practice. At an early age, he developed an interest in language, logic, grammar, and argument. The youngest of five boys, he had ample opportunity to hone his skills at dinner table discussions facilitated by his father, a now retired orthopedic surgeon.
McCullough's interests and competitive personality led him to pursue a career in law. In 1988, he graduated with honors in the top ten percent of his law school class. He served as an appellate law clerk from 1988 to 1990. He married a Sanford native, moved to Sanford, and was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1991. He worked at a Sanford firm from 1990 to 1993, when he started his own practice. He has been at his current location, 1074 Main Street in Sanford, since 1995.
McCullough taught the Sanford High School Mock Trial team from 1998 through 2010, using and honing his litigation skills. The first 11 years, his children participated, and Sanford reached the state championship round in 2009. "It allowed me to pursue my love of teaching and the law," McCullough says of his mock trial coaching experience. "Even though none of my children have chosen a career in law, like my other mock trial students, they are infinitely better prepared both personally and professionally in whatever they do because of the critical thinking skills which they gained during their mock trial experience."
McCullough demands excellence of himself and his staff, aiming to serve clients as he would want from a lawyer if he were the client. A Patriots fan, he gains inspiration from the tireless effort and preparation that yield success on the gridiron.
